Get Into Energy, a program of the Center for Workforce Development (CEWD), has developed a number of toolkits to get young people revved and ready for energy careers.
Recruiting and Retraining Women for Nontraditional Careers. Women have traditionally not been attracted to careers in the trades. Hard Hatted Women encourages them to explore nontraditional careers and achieve economic independence.
Career Clusters. If your company wants to connect with local schools about job opportunities in energy, understanding career clusters will help you see where your employment needs fit into career categories identified by educators.
Mentoring. This toolkit makes it easy to mentor high school students and motivate them, and prepare them for career opportunities in energy. The kit includes a task list, budget template, guidance in developing policies and procedures, and all required forms.
Summer Camp at Your Company. Getting students excited about energy careers is key to building your future workforce. Hosting summer camps for middle and high school students is a great way to build their career awareness and interest. This tool kit helps you organize a summer program and course materials.
Career Fairs. Organize a career fair in your community with these tips, fact sheets on top jobs, test-your-energy-IQ exercises, a nuclear crossword puzzle, packing list, and energy sudoku.
Careers in Energy Week. October 17-21, 2011, is Careers in Energy Week. This toolkit, which includes a sample proclamation and an energy essay contest for students, helps you generate excitement about energy careers in your community.
Green Energy Summer Camp. This one-week camp involves middle and high school students in hands-on green projects. The camp kit includes agendas, task lists, a student flyer, lesson plans, and a list of materials.
Teachers’ Career Day. This one-day program for high school teachers builds awareness of energy company operations and the exciting careers available within. Get information on how the program is structured along wtih a sample letter to teachers and an interactive activity.
FIRST LEGO League. FIRST LEGO League in an international program that ignites interest in science and technology among children ages 9-14. This kit shows you how to get involved. Included are a to-do list, a letter to teachers, information for parents, registration forms, resources, and a one-pager to management on why you should start this program
