About CTEWDC

Who We Are

The Connecticut Energy Workforce Development Consortium (CTEWDC) is a public-private partnership of individuals from business, education, and government working to ensure that a skilled workforce exists to meet the needs of Connecticut’s traditional energy, renewable energy, and energy-efficiency-related businesses. We are a regional affiliate of the national nonprofit Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD).

In 2008, two of the state’s leading utilities—Northeast Utilities (NU) and United Illuminating (UI)—invited the Connecticut Business and Industry Association‘s Education Foundation to participate in a regional meeting of the CEWD to discuss current and future energy workforce issues. At that time, New England was identified as the only area of the country without a regional consortium dedicated to CEWD’s mission: to develop solutions to the coming workforce shortage in the utility industry.

As a result, CBIA’s Education Foundation brought together stakeholders from business, education, and government to form the the Connecticut Energy Workforce Development Consortium. Chaired by NU and UI in collaboration with CBIA,  the Consortium has more than 57 business members as well as representatives from government and education.

The consortium meets quarterly and has two working committees: the Career Awareness and Education Committee and the Energy Utility Workforce Partnership.

The Career Awareness and Education Committee is charged with promoting career awareness among students, educators, and members of the community. The committee also is determining energy workforce training needs and identifying appropriate training resources for specific energy-related careers.

The Energy Utility Workforce Partnership, a recent project of the Consortium funded by the Workforce Solutions Collaborative of Metro Hartford, is designed to implement strategies for building Connecticut’s entry-level energy career pipeline.

This activity was funded in whole or in part by the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Connecticut Green Jobs Partnership is an equal opportunity employer/program, and auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities.
